Four “Municipal Leadership and Governance Program” (MLGP) alumni local government units (LGUs) received “Champion for Health Governance” awards in recognition of their excellent and efficient implementation of local health programs.
These alumni municipalities include San Gabriel, La Union; Salcedo, Eastern Samar; San Felipe, Zambales; and Tacurong City, Sultan Kudarat. Rounding up the top 5 awardees is Plaridel, Bulacan.
Mayors and municipal health officers of the four completed the MLGP, which is one of the training programs under the “Health Leadership and Governance Program” partnership of the Department of Health and the Zuellig Family Foundation.
Each winning LGU received P100,000 grant to fund their best health programs and continue their outstanding initiatives in health.
At the awarding ceremony, Vice President Leni Robredo said, “The issue of public health is a silent crisis that deserves more attention, especially from our local government officials. When our barangay captains, our mayors, and our governors, want to get things done, even the impossible becomes possible. And in these extraordinary times, we need heroes like our enlightened local chief executives, who are committed to getting things done, who do not mind setting politics aside, and focus on helping those who need help the most.”
This award-giving body is supported by the pharmaceutical company the MSD, Kaya Natin! Movement for Good Governance and Ethical Leadership, Jesse Robredo Foundation, and the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
